Description: The Asamar Buranji is a textbook on the history of Assam written by Padmanath Borooah, the first president of Assam Sahitya Sabha. Padmanath Borooah collected historical material from various scattered sources such as Buranjis, inscriptions, vamshavalis, legends and folklore, and presented them in an organised and systematic manner for the benefit of young readers. The book is divided into 5 primary sections that are further divided into subsections. The first section discusses the geography of Assam, the people and their language. The second section deals with the dynasties ruling over ancient Assam such as, the mythical Danavas, the Kiratas, the Palas, the Bara-Bhuyans etc. The third section is devoted to a detailed discussion of Ahom rule in Assam. The fourth section discusses some other prominent dynasties of medieval Assam such as the Koches, Sutiyas, Kacharis, Jaintias and so on. The fifth section discusses the origin and development of British rule in Assam. The value of this book, as an introductory text to the history of Assam, remains undiminished even today.
