The caityagrḥa Cave 26 has elaborately sculpted panels. It is 36 feet 3 inches wide and 66 feet 1 inch long. The pillared hall houses a stupa with a Buddha image.
The biggest caityagrḥa from the Later phase, this cave is part of a big cave-complex built by a powerful Monk.
The sculpture of the Buddha in Mahāparinirvāṇa is one the highlights of this cave. It is 23 feet long and depicts Buddha attaining Nirvāṇa. Next to it is another sculpted narrative of Māravijaya. Mara tries to tempt the Buddha and challenge him, but the Great One overcomes Mara and attains enlightenment.
The inscription at the cave states that it was gifted by Monk Buddhabadra in honour of the Bhavviraj - a minister of the Aśmakaraja.
