A resident of the Santipur district of West Bengal, Subir Biswas is a young craftsman who creates Jamdani print fabrics. He belongs to a family of traditional textile artisans. After having received training from an NGO, he returned to his village Neelkuthi as an entrepreneur. He revived handloom weaving in his family and started making products that were in demand in larger markets beyond his locality. By reintroducing cotton and khadi as fabric among the artisans who were working upon polyester only, he contributed towards producing organic textiles.

His journey as an entrepreneur was filled with challenges and difficulties. But he overcame all of them, and now has 80 looms running under his supervision. He feels that the youth is ready to capture the ample opportunities available in the textile market, but would like institutional support by the government to grow the business.
