M. Jitendra Dhaiyda, resident of village Adhoi, located in the Kutch district of Gujarat has been working in the textile industry for the last twelve years. According to Jitendra, the art of weaving Tangaliya is 700 years old, carrying a signature style of dots, geometric patterns, straight lines etc. Tangaliya can be seen in shawls and sarees worn by women. Traditionally, Tangaliya was woven using sheep wool known as ‘gheta’, although weavers nowadays are using silk and other readily available threads in the markets.

With the changes in the fashion industry, Tangaliya art almost disappeared from the markets by 2010. Over the subsequent years, deliberate efforts were made by the Government of India to support the weavers of this lost art. Post-revival, Tangaliya is now mostly woven during the special occasions in the family.
