Material: Dried bottle gourd, Beeswax, Bamboo, Coconut
A wind instrument around one-two feet in length, usually played by snake charmers. Air is blown into a channel which is connected to the air reservoir. It is made of dried bottle gourd or coconut which channels the air into the two reed pipes. The neck of the air reservoir is carved or painted to beautify it. Pungi is played with no pauses with the help of circular breathing by the player. The double reed pipes (jivala) are made of bamboo which are fitted to the gourd with beeswax. One of the jivala has 5-9 wind holes which produces the melody while the other jivala has 2 wind holes which acts as a drone to the instrument. These reeds vibrate when air is passed through them, which in turn generates music.
