Mataki is a solid instrumrnt made of clay. Found in Rajasthan, it is identical to Ghatam in South India.

Made of burnt clay, the ordinary pitcher of daily use in rural India is a percussion instrument, found in many parts of the country. The Garha of Kashmir is a similar instrument. Mataki is struck on the belly by the right hand while the left strums on the rim of the open head. Its function is rhythmic. The identical Ghatam in South India has been elevated to the realm of classical music of the Karnatak school.
