Maram is a percussion instrument made of leather and black paste. Mostly used in temples, this instrument is found in Kerala.

Maram has a cylindrical barrel both ends being covered with leather and braced with leather straps. This is primarily used for temple rituals known as Pani Kottal. An instrument of the same name and similar in all respects except that one face is well applied with black paste is used by the Paraya community for some of the dances connected with Devi worship. It is also called by them, Mathalam and it produces tones similar to Maddalam.
