Halgi is a percussion instrument made of wood, leather, iron, and parchment. This folk instrument is found in Maharashtra and Gujarat. Majorly used by folk musicians in their music and dance sequences in Maharashtra and by traditional and folk drummers of Gujarat.



HALGI in Maharashtra

Material: Parchment, wood, leather, iron

A skin covered circular wooden frame drum. The skin is tied up through a leather cord with the help of an iron ring at the back. Beaten with a pair of sticks. Used by folk musicians in their music and dance sequences in Maharashtra.

HALGI in Gujarat

Material: Iron, parchment, leather

An iron shallow frame drum. One side is covered with skin and laced to an iron ring at the back by leather strap. While playing it is held in one hand, put at the shoulder level and gently stroked. Used by traditional and folk drummers of Gujarat.
