Goan Fish Curry

Goan Fish Curry is an ultimate comfort curry with a sweet and tangy flavour. The dish is simple and easy to master and can be prepared with any kind of locally available fish.

Ingredients

1 (medium sized): Pomfret or any other fish
½ teaspoon: Turmeric powder
1(medium sized): Coconut (scraped)
½ teaspoon: Coriander seeds
1(medium sized): Onion (diced)
1 tablespoon: Coconut oil or vegetable oil
1 tablespoon: Tamarind paste
2-3: Kashmiri red chilies
4-5: Peppercorns

Salt, to taste

Directions

Preparing the rice-flour
  1. Marinate fish pieces with a little turmeric powder and salt, keep aside for 10 minutes.
  2. Grind the coconut with water and extract coconut milk by squeezing it through a muslin cloth.
  3. Heat oil in a pan.
  4. Sauté the diced onions till they are golden brown.
  5. Add the Kashmiri red chillies, peppercorns, coriander seeds, tamarind paste, salt and water, and mix the ingredients well.
  6. After two minutes, add the marinated fish pieces.
  7. Keep it on a low flame till the fish soaks up the masala.
  8. Add the coconut milk and bring it to a slow boil, and turn the flame off. Do not boil too much.

Serve with hot steamed rice.
