Navaratan Dal Kurma
Description: This is a dish whose name is steeped in history. "Nav" means nine and "ratan" means jewels. Some claim that it pays homage to the nine jewels of the famous Mughal ruler Akbar while others believe that "navratan" means nine precious ingredients . "Kurma" is traditionally a gravy with nuts, cream, yogurt, coconut and other rich ingredients. "Navratan kurma" can be of vegetarian or non-vegetarian variety and often also includes cauliflower, carrots and peas.
