Coin and Bead Necklace

Keywords: Necklace
Bead Necklace

Publisher: National Museum, New Delhi

Description: This necklace is made of fourteen Indian silver rupees coins, arranged flatly in a row. Each coin has two stiff loops on opposite ends through which the tiny red coloured beads are strung in a single row, forming a U-shaped necklace. The two extremes of the beaded strings have a looped end for fastening the necklace. This type of necklace made of coins is much favoured by the Adi women from Arunachal Pradesh. It is believed that the silver coins have amulet value and not frequently put in traditional ornaments. This coin necklace resembles a dark coin in the centre representing any ethical or religious value of the Adi tribe.
