Hat
Publisher: National Museum, New Delhi
Description: This type of cane hat, locally called as Bolup, is used by the people of the Adi Gallong tribe of Arunachal Pradesh. It is made by coiling lengths of cane to obtain a semi-elliptical bowl with a horizontal boat-shaped rim. The hat is extremely sturdy. These hats also have a reasonable market value and thus have an appropriate price while exporting as tribal handicraft. These hats have tiny spaces between the weaved bamboo strands that allows enough air to pass through it, thus these hats are significantly used for agricultural and tourist purpose. They are also a good material in order to export outside the clan or state.
