Cotton Bag

Publisher: National Museum, New Delhi

Description: The cotton bag is designed with vertical stripes and bands of motifs of contrasting and subtle shades, like green, blue and whitish red stripes, which undeniably makes this a unique piece of the Adi tribe of Arunachal Pradesh. The patterns majorly show five box prints and coupled triangles being upside down corresponding to each other. The bag is divided into three parts as two handle strap cloths and one central body of the dorsal side. The whole is stitched with each other, and the stitching is internally done as it is not visible outside, with tassels at the bottom corners. Such bags are used for utilitarian purposes, like- collecting agricultural products, which are relatively small in size, and it is also used in exporting tribal handcrafted product.
